South Africa
Well, I officially bailed out of my spot on the fifa website to go to South Africa for world cup this year. Too bad you can't just play all the time. Anyways. I will be watching the james with Jacks this year, from some local bar- rooting for Portugal... well.. rooting for my boy Renaldo
Here are some old South Africa Pics from the box. South Africa was one of my favorite places to travel. It actually reminds me quite a bit of the Bay area. You can get your nose into just about anything from cage diving, to whale watching- ostrich riding to sandboarding. You name it, you can do it. It is also home to some of the best Mojitos I have EVER had in my life. And one thing is for sure, the people are GORGEOUS.
But the place is strange. The blatancy of SA recent history with Aparthied is so in your face. Drive just 15 minutes outside of town and you will see townships, right there, with people living in corrugated boxes on the sides of the roads. I volunteered for a day with the Amy Beihl foundation and learned a little bit about what local people in the township communities are doing to empower from within.
I left with a lot to think about.

I visited some good friends over the holidays who have just become new parents. It was so sweet to see them onto the next chapter. My girl is such a natural at the mom stuff that I forgot all of our antics as singles out on the town; it made me smile to see her old foot tattoo next to her little baby's foot at bathtime- she's still my Pistola!
